Macau / Hong Kong Trip – Day 01

There’s these two countries I actually never thought of going for a very long time, Hong Kong and Japan.
Hong Kong has always been giving me this ‘overly-crowded’ feeling (same goes to Tokyo) and not to mention overly priced.
For many years, Hong Kong just doesn’t interest me and I cant explain why. As for Japan, I just hate the idea that Japanese used to be cruel people during war time. I know right, but I cant help feeling that way lol.
This, my best friend knows best cause I’ve been that way since high school.

But my mindset changed as I grow and I just want to visit wherever and whenever I have the ability to.
Also since our friend Victor is at China, we planned a visit.

5 days, 4 nights and the first night was spent roaming Macau.
Instead of buying a return ticket to Hong Kong, I suggested that we buy two one way tickets.
So we arrived in Macau from Lcct and departed from Hong Kong to Lcct and that way, we get to save a little on the ferry by just buying a one-way ticket. Get to save about Rm70 per person, better than nothing. :)
Air tickets was about Rm600 per person all together and ferry from Macau to Hong Kong was included in our hotel package and to break it down, it’s HKD 162 for one way.

20130908-151518.jpg
#1 Departed at 6.30am and reached Macau about 11am. The weather was really moody throughout my entire Macau/Hong Kong trip.

We actually planned to stay a night at Zhuhai, at Victor’s place but ended up booking a room at Macau instead.

20130908-151529.jpg
#2 We booked Sheraton at Taipa for HKD 1700+ (RM750+) which includes two one way ferry ticket to Hong Kong and two buffet breakfast.

20130908-151537.jpg
#3 Sheraton Hotel is the most affordable among the higher end hotels and since we wanted to stay around Taipa, there’s really not much hotel to choose from. Normal hotels will be charge at around RM400+ and to pay a little bit more for a far better hotel is totally worth it.

20130908-151546.jpg
#4 Then there’s the pool.

After dealing with our luggages at hotel, we took a free shuttle bus to ‘Kuan Zap’ or known as the Macau border to cross over to Zhuhai.

One thing great about Macau is that they have free shuttle bus everywhere and if you’re not in a hurry, it is the best way of transportation if saving money is also your priority.
It took us about less than half an hour to cross the border and we met up Victor at Zhuhai Underground shopping mall which is right outside the border.

20130908-151603.jpg
#5 Had our lunch at a random restaurant before our shopping begins.

I only ended up buying a trolley bag! :(
But oklah my trolley bag cost me about RM90 only, hehe.

20130908-151654.jpg
#6 After all the borders crossing, checking in our room, we headed to Senado Square and along the way we entered this famous milk restaurant, Yishun milk company.

20130908-151646.jpg
#7 Not quite use to the way their restaurant/cafe looks.

20130908-151638.jpg
#8 Ordered Macau pork bun which I cant seem to enjoy due to my braces, the bread was too hard for me.

20130908-151623.jpg
#9 ‘Ginger sauce bang milk’, direct translate HAHAHA. Fatty loves it but I find it weird.

So my mom finds it weird too and I thought, ‘aiyah she lousy don’t know how to enjoy’ but I guess it runs in the genes. Lol.

20130908-151614.jpg
#10 Don’t know what they call this in English but this is ‘dan tan’ (MOP12) which is like our steam egg (jing sui dan) but instead of salty this tastes sweet. Damn weird for me also lah cause all my life I’ve been eating salty steam egg then suddenly you give me a bowl of ‘sweet steam egg’. -_-‘

20130908-151718.jpg
#11 St. Dominic’s church.

Don’t know why my pictures so blur one lah! Don’t know it’s my camera, the editing app or my Iphone lah or 3 all together pfft!

I just realised that my camera don’t really have this anti-shake like my old Sony so it tends to be blur because my hands will shake! MEH!
Aiya also because of the editing app cause my apek Iphone prolly cannot save higher resolution pictures lah so now I cant wait for Apple to come out their newest Iphone already. Wait till my neck also long!

20130908-151707.jpg
#12 Just look at the sky! T_T

20130908-151746.jpg
#13 Ruins of St. Paul.

20130908-151902.jpg
#14 We didn’t walk all the way up because time was running out. Also because I know there’s always a next time so never mind.

20130908-151836.jpg
#15 The boys.

We were rushing because we needed to get back to Taipa by 7.30pm for House of Dancing Water show.

20130908-150652.jpg
#16 Just the two of us because Victor watched it.

The cheapest ticket available is HKD580 (RM250)!
I read from Trip Advisor that it’s a must watch so I checked the price and after looking at the ridiculous price, I wasn’t planning to watch it.
But then Fatty’s father told us it’s a must watch, so oklor we watch lor.
RM250 is a-freaking-lot.

20130908-151800.jpg
#17 House of Dancing Water was pretty impressive, they have a lot of machines and stuff coming out from below the ground but I didn’t quite understand the story line though. Should have read it beforehand.

20130908-151806.jpg
#18 Then they have giraffe.

20130908-150833.jpg
#19

20130908-150843.jpg
#20

20130908-150903.jpg
#21

20130908-150819.jpg
#22 This is the part where I like most.

20130908-150752.jpg
#23 The performers were hanging and swining, they looked like they’re having lots of fun.

20130908-150913.jpg
#24 This is the part Fatty loves the most, the bike flew so fast I couldn’t get to snap it in time. I enjoyed this a lot too, really exciting to watch.

If you have RM250 to spare, do watch because we really don’t get this type of quality show here in Malaysia.

20130908-150928.jpg
#25 Macau at night.

After watching the show, Victor joined us and we went over to Ruo da Cunha, Taipa for supper.

20130908-151001.jpg
#26 We went to Casa de Pasto de Seng Cheong restaurant for crab porridge, we ordered the small portion for MOP130. The porridge was quite addictive but the remaining two dishes were nothing to shout about.

20130908-150951.jpg
#27 Fried frog.

20130908-151010.jpg
#28 Lala.

I wish I could go to Ruo da Cunha during day time because there’s a lot of food around and a lot of things to see.
Next time, next time.

20130908-151042.jpg
#29 Thank God I get to try Gelatina Mok Yi Kei just right before their closing time.

20130908-151050.jpg
#30 One of their best seller, durian ice-cream. Right balance of sweetness and the durian flavour was really intense.

20130908-151058.jpg
#31 Fatty’s serradura which is some kind of Portugese pudding which tasted really good too. Something I’ve never tried before.

20130908-151125.jpg
#32 Them boys enjoying their dessert.

Before I went to Hong Kong, my friend warned me that Hongkies are rude people and that they will scold you or shoo you off base on her experience.
But from what I encountered was that Macanese are a lot scarrier. Not all, just a few but they’re just weird in their own way.
Hongkies treated me just fine.

Quick Post : Macau & Hong Kong

Here’re some pictures from Macau and Hong Kong while I (slowly) take my time to sort out the rest.

20130906-143703.jpg
#1 While walking towards Ruins of St. Paul at Macau.

20130906-143710.jpg
#2 I love the area around Senado Square, the buildings, the stairs, and the way their streets look.

20130906-143654.jpg
#3 Ah peks and their birdies.

#10 Fatty’s wet brogue (due to the rain) and my Minnie mouse stocking.

Oklah I try to at least finish up my Macau post by this weekend.

45 Lekiu : Unexpected hidden gem in Malacca

More than half a year ago I found this little gem in Malacca called ‘The Stable’ by Musang Lena Residences which I fell in love with instantly.
I was glad that I had the chance to enjoy my one night at ‘The Stable’ for my birthday and what was better than ‘The Stable’ is ’45 Lekiu’.

I did mention in my birthday post that I will wait for my bff to be back so that we can enjoy ’45 Lekiu’ together and indeed we did, on a Sunday 2 days before she flew back to UK.
We were even joined by Ee’s parents and sister, it was fun. :)

The guesthouse draws its inspiration from the rich tapestry of Malacca and capture everything Malacca stands for – heritage, culture and history. Located in the heart of Malacca’s UNESCO World Heritage site, the 1941 pre-war art deco building has been painstakingly restored into a stylish abode epitomizing a “new luxury” that is smart, pared down and tampered with healthy dose of wit and charm while maintaining it’s old world quaintness.

45 Lekiu is a very spacious 3 stories guesthouse that exudes a sense of old charm decorated with contemporary pieces and centuries old furnishings, offering a lap pool and rooftop for panaromic view of old Malacca.

It took us a few rounds around Jonker Walk before we could find where 45 Lekiu was located because 45 Lekiu blended too well with the other shop lots and we missed it.
There is one parking lot right in front of 45 Lekiu for the guests, so worry not.

Once we arrived, we were taught by the housekeeper on how to navigate their digital door lock and she showed us around the house explaining and differentiating the switches to us.

20130623-111931.jpg
#1 As we enter, we passed by a kitchenette on the left equipped with a refrigerator, microwave, and a coffee machine. We were also given a complimentary bottle of red wine, how nice. Oh, and the fruits were free too.

20130623-111642.jpg
#2 On the right is where the stairs are, leading to second floor.

20130623-111607.jpg
#3 As we walked further in…

20130623-112258.jpg
#4 There is a flat screen HDTV, a DVD player, Astro, an Ipod dock, DVDs and books on the first floor.

20130623-111555.jpg
#5 Love the bricks, love the wooden beams, and love the Chinese furniture.

20130623-112552.jpg
#6 Not a stranger in my blog, she needs to come back quick! :(

20130623-112523.jpg
#7

20130623-111706.jpg
#8

20130623-111808.jpg
#9 As we reached second floor…

20130623-112636.jpg
#10 Second floor is where the master bedroom is located and there’s a flight of stairs leading to the bathroom.

20130623-112329.jpg
#11 A corner of the master bedroom.

20130623-111911.jpg
#12 King bed was extremely soft and comfortable, I had a great sleep.

20130623-111618.jpg
#13 Another corner of the room, right before the stairs that leads to the bathroom.

20130623-111840.jpg
#14 Fatty turned blacky.

#15 ♥

20130623-111859.jpg
#16 Sunlight came straight in.

20130623-111849.jpg
#17 Where we wash up, do our business and have our rain shower.

20130623-112647.jpg
#18 After the basin is where the outdoor bathtub is, with two rocking chairs to enjoy Malacca’s old charm.

20130623-111748.jpg
#19 Spacious enough for two.

20130623-112659.jpg
#20 Another flight of stairs leading to rooftop.

20130623-112309.jpg
#21 Breakfast for two?

20130623-112714.jpg
#22 The second bedroom is on the third floor.

20130623-112401.jpg
#23 ATTIC BEDROOM! I’ve always love attic bedroom but such bedrooms are so rare in Malaysia. One downside though, knowing our weather it was really hot and stuffy.

20130623-112342.jpg
#24 From the third floor.

20130623-112440.jpg
#25 A lap pool for us to dip in when the weather gets too unbearable.

20130623-111725.jpg
#26 Lounge beds and pillows on the floor is love! Ceiling to floor wooden doors is love too! My squatting reflection, not so much.

20130623-112448.jpg
#27 Sleeping all day on the lounge bed was too easy, I miss it!

20130623-112728.jpg
#28 Us looking ugly, haha but who cares. :)

20130623-111628.jpg
#27

20130623-111716.jpg
#24 The toilet on the first floor is tucked in the other end of the lap pool.

20130623-111656.jpg
#25

20130623-112758.jpg
#26 Not sure what’s the purpose of the chair, maybe for our partner to sit and accompany us while we do our business. :X

There’s only two toilets, one at the end of the pool and another is in the master bedroom.
For the attic bedroom, there’s only a basin for guests to wash up.

20130623-112459.jpg
#27 My boyfriend on the rocking chair enjoying his beer.

Overall I enjoyed my stay at 45 Lekiu very very much and indeed it is a hidden gem in Jonker Walk.
It was very comfortable, blasting air-condition, listening to music and chit-chatting with people I love.
The only problem is that once you’re inside 45 Lekiu, you’ll be tempted to stay put and not go anywhere else.

A trip to Bali with family – Day 8 & Day 9 / Lembongan Island

HURRAY!!
Bali’s last post!! Which I cant wait to get rid of because it has been stopping me from blogging about something else.

(And to speed up the process because yours truly is lazy, I’ll just do a caption post.)

20130510-150448.jpg
#1 So on the 8th day, we left from Ubud to Lembongan Island. I was excited but not so much after that because I ended up not swimming in the sea. Or to be exact, dipping myself in the sea.

20130510-150513.jpg
#2 LOOK AT THAT CRUISE! There were slides on it omg!!

20130510-150528.jpg
#3 There were lots of hotels and villas on the island, and we of course booked an affordable one.

After settling down, we rent three bicycles and cycled around the island and finally came to a stop which I really like.

20130510-150312.jpg
#4 That’s seaweed right?

20130510-150328.jpg
#5 The sand was really harsh and there were lots of something else on the sand which is why I am wearing my flip flop but the water was extremely clear.

20130510-150406.jpg
#6 We then started walking towards the sea.

20130510-150353.jpg
#7 And I continued walking and walking, leaving those two behind.

20130510-150432.jpg
#8 Sorry ah, I hope my naked face didn’t scare you because I really really cant be arse anymore to put on anything on my face except for sunblock because the weather was not friendly. Actually the purpose of my picture is to show you how far I’ve walked.

20130510-150341.jpg
#9 Why I kept walking and walking was because the water level did not increase at all! It was so shallow no matter how far I walked and I really had a lot of fun. I was really happy because I don’t know where else in the world that allows me to walk that far on the sea without drowning myself. Actually the sea was weirder than that, it became even shallower when I walked further at some point.

20130512-212300.jpg
#10 A Balinese doing her everyday job, picking up seaweed and pulling them back to the shore.

20130510-150247.jpg
#11 We tried catching crabs too cause I saw lots of holes on the sand but these crabs move too fast.

I actually love catching crabs at the beach. ;)

20130510-150236.jpg
#12 It was also my first time getting so close to starfishes, there were so many around me I was so afraid that I might step on them. I saw them moving from one spot to another too, it was fun.

20130510-150226.jpg
#13 We later on cycled further and stop by to take a look at mangroves.

20130510-150257.jpg
#14 Some Balinese approached us and asked if we were interested in mangroves tour, telling us that we’ll get to see a lot of things including snakes and that’s when we left haha. My mom and brother are really afraid of snake.

20130510-150143.jpg
#15 We then head to dinner and watch sunset again but it was very different from the sunsets we watched.

20130510-150157.jpg
#16 The sunset was this beautiful and I did not edit this picture! Somewhat like a wall painting, so picturesque. :)

On the 9th day, my brother forced me to walked up hill and tour the entire island because the day before I refused profusely.
I wanted to give up so badly and asked them both to continue the journey without me but they wouldn’t allow!
I ended up asking a stranger on a bike to fetch me to our designated destination and skipped all the walking.

20130511-143540.jpg
#17 While my mom enjoyed the walking…

20130511-143508.jpg
#18 Walking uphill overlooking the island.

20130511-141843.jpg
#19 Walking towards Dream Beach.

20130511-143444.jpg
#20

20130511-143359.jpg
#21 I really wanted to chill by the beach!

20130511-141355.jpg
#22 We then walked and walked towards Devil’s Tear.

20130511-141513.jpg
#23 I don’t see no tear, just a cow and lotsa cow dungs on the grass.

20130511-141206.jpg
#24 We walked passed all the cow dungs and reached a cliff.

20130511-141120.jpg
#25

20130511-141227.jpg
#26

20130511-141155.jpg
#27

20130511-141030.jpg
#28 If you look closely, there’s different shade of blue at the end of the cliff. The colour looks really amazing and I enjoyed watching the wave crash on it.

20130511-141045.jpg
#29 This is the other end of the cliff.

20130511-141014.jpg
#30 And this is what happened when the waves crashed into it, it was amazing!!

20130511-141104.jpg
#31 We stayed there for quite a long period because no one was there except us and this place to me, is really quite a weird place. It looks like a farm at the front, a dessert in the middle and then there’s a cliff and scary waves at the back.

Devil’s tear is a must see if you ever go to Lembongan Island and I also advise you to rent a motorcycle to tour around the island because the island is really a little too big to walk by foot.
On the 10th day which is the last day, we left Lembongan Island and were picked up by our driver to take a one last tour before sending us to the airport.

20130511-143335.jpg
#31 Spot the plane and YAY!!

I AM DONE WITH MY BALI POST HAHAHAHAHAH!

A trip to Bali with family – Day 7

Lazy post ahead!
Posting some pictures from Bali without typing much, just want to be a day closer to day 10.
You might be able to tell, I wasn’t as enthusiastic as my other trips.

My 7th day at Bali was a long day, we went to 4 different places all together.

20130429-140446.jpg
#1 First destination was Pura Gunung Kawi.

20130429-135449.jpg
#2 There were paddy terraces around the area.

20130429-135521.jpg
#3 Along the way, there’s quite a number of cute things for tourists to buy too.

20130429-140500.jpg
#4 I personally like this quite a lot.

20130429-135425.jpg
#5 And more paddy terraces.

20130429-135415.jpg
#6 My mom in white.

20130429-135059.jpg
#7 We walked further in to get a good look at the Hindu temple.

20130429-135051.jpg
#8

20130429-135042.jpg
#9 My brother in the sarong he rented.

20130429-135027.jpg
#10

20130429-134908.jpg
#11 After spending some time at Pura Gunung Kawi, we headed to Kintamani to get a dramatic view of the volcano. That’s a first for me.

We often get to see and learn a lot through images and videos but when we really get to see or experience what we saw on the television, it’s a whole new different feeling.
And it’s a good one, I must say.

20130429-134932.jpg
#12 Balinese trying to sold off this puppy for Rm300 and it was so fat and fluffy! I was dying to carry it home, only if I could.

We then head over to Pura Taman Ayun during noon time.

20130429-141010.jpg
#13 Ladies are not allowed into the temple during menstruation.

20130429-141000.jpg
#14 Mom. (Okay I’m getting really lazy.)

20130429-140936.jpg
#15 Saw two roosters being locked up in a cage like thing under the hot sun, poor them.

20130429-140922.jpg
#16 Temples at Pura Taman Ayun.

20130429-140815.jpg
#17

Pura Taman Ayun actually works like a recreational park but with temples in it. There were lots of Balinese when we were there, just enjoying their time with family members and friends.

20130429-140750.jpg
#18 I wore leggings that day and it was a very wrong move! Shouldn’t wrapped up my pair of short legs when it was burning hot.

During evening, our driver bought us to try Luwak coffee at Lumbung Sari.
‘Kopi luwak (Indonesian pronunciation, or civet coffee, refers to the beans of coffee berries once they have been eaten and excreted by the Asian Palm Civet.’

20130429-140700.jpg
#19 Coffee beans.

20130429-140712.jpg
#20 Civet being locked up for tourists to have a look at but only temporarily. After being locked for months, they will be let go into the wild according to the owner.

20130429-140626.jpg
#21 Bunch of beans.

20130429-140617.jpg
#22 An old lady frying coffee beans, just to demo and show us how it’s done.

20130429-140608.jpg
#23 My brother then decided to give it a try, seems like he had fun.

20130429-140558.jpg
#24 After taking a tour and understanding how they produced Luwak coffee, we were then taken to a hut.

20130429-140549.jpg
#25 Lumbung Sari offered us 9 different coffees and teas to try for free, hoping that we will buy them home.

20130429-140541.jpg
#26 Ordered a cup of Luwak coffee to try and I cant tell much how good it tasted. I like drinking coffee but I’m really not good at it, haha.

20130429-140514.jpg
#27 While on the way back to our hotel, the driver stopped somewhere along the way and showed us another paddy terraces. It was beautiful.

20130429-140524.jpg
#28 I went down the stairs to take a better look and I came across this grandpa who kept asking me to snap a picture of him. I did but after I snapped his picture, he asked for money wtf.

Okay, 7th day done. LOL!

A trip to Bali with family – Day 5 / Dinner at Bebek Bengil

The night before Silence Day I had one of the best meals at Bebek Bengil, also happens to be one of the most expensive meals.
Bebek stands for duck in Indonesia and as for their English name ‘Dirty Duck Diner’, it was inspired by a flock of dirty ducks that flew into the restaurant from the paddy fields across the street.
Dirty duck is not dirty at all.

20130403-162722.jpg

#2 Bebek Bengil is a VERY SPACIOUS restaurant, so you might not need to worry about making a booking but if you’re prone to being a paranoid you may do so too.

#5 This is the view right in front of me, a paddy field! It was beautiful but the sky turned dark very quickly and soon enough I was attacked by mosquitoes. :(

TIPS: MUST BRING MOSQUITO REPELLENT TO BALI OR YOU’LL DIE OF ITCHINESS OR DIE OF ANGER.

#7 Bebek Bengil, half a duck steamed in Indonesian spices then deep fried for a crispy finish for IDR87,000.

The duck’s skin was very crispy without doubt and before I took a bite I was worried that it might be lack of taste but it was the complete opposite.
The duck was very flavorful with spices and the meat was tender.
To compare it with our Chinese Peking Duck, I actually fancy Crispy Duck a little bit more for the flavor and crispiness from the skin.
It was so good that I wanted my mom to give it a try. Not trying to eat, but trying to cook it for us.

#8 Crispy chicken, IDR67,000 tasted far from Crispy duck and I recommend that you do not try it not for the reason that it tasted bad but for the reason that ducks just taste much better.

#9 Bebek Bakar Sambal, IDR89,000 is grilled duck in green chilli served with sweet potato rice. Although the duck’s skin isn’t crispy but the duck was moist, tender, and very flavorful too. The spices used tasted different from the crispy duck but both was equally good.

#10 I AM SO HUNGRY RIGHT NOW!

The dinner was so good and we went back to our hotel with a satisfied tummies and empty wallets.
The bill came up to IDR300,300 (RM90++) including a pot of tea (only one time refill) and taxes.

As we walked back to our hotel, everywhere was pitch black and we had to use lights from our phones to guide our way back because Balinese were already prepared for Silence Day.
At some point it was quite scary to me, fearing apocalypse might happen. Too much Walking Dead.

As for the next day, we were all quarantined in the hotel and all I did was nothing.
