Osaka/Kyoto 2014 : Day 2

On our second day, Japan decided to be a little more generous and gave us the heat we wanted to keep ourselves warm. It was really sunny. We went over to Kyoto which is just an hour away from Osaka. Initially Nara was in our itinerary too but we were running out of time so I have to save Nara for the next time.

#1 But first, let me take a selfie. HAHAHA stupid song.

#3 We were all really hungry when we arrived Arashiyama, so we randomly went into the first restaurant we chanced upon.

Arashiyama (嵐山 Storm Mountain?) is a district on the western outskirts of Kyoto, Japan. It also refers to the mountain across the Ōi River, which forms a backdrop to the district.

20140408-002755.jpg
#5 This is Togetsukyo Bridge in Arashiyama which is a well known landmark.

20140408-002850.jpg
#6 Bought green tea ice-cream from a stall nearby and it was really good! Knowing that it’s a sunny day, I had the chance to wear my skirt instead of pants. Beige trench coat from Zara Kids, for only RM79.90!! So worth it I want to cry LOL!

20140408-002907.jpg
#7 Was really excited when I spotted geisha so I went over and asked for pictures. Or maybe they’re maiko, I cant differentiate.

20140408-003414.jpg
#8 Super HUGE daikon or white radish as we call it. Mom said it was really heavy!

We spend quite sometime exploring the souvenir and snack shops around Arashiyama.

20140408-003549.jpg
#9 Couldn’t spot any Sakura as we were two to three weeks earlier but Plum blossoms were everywhere.

20140408-003210.jpg

20140408-003628.jpg
#11 What a pretty sight to behold! To be honest I do not know how to differentiate Sakura and Plum blossom, why do they look so alike to me?

20140408-003756.jpg
#12 Wish I could see the real Sakura though since they only appear for such a limited time.

Tenyru-ji is a major temple of the Rinzai School. It was built in 1339 on the former site of Emperor Go-Daigo’s villa after a priest dreamt of a dragon rising from the nearby river.

The main attraction of Tenryu-ji Temple is the Zen garden dating back to the 14th century. A triumph of design, the garden features a large pond which catches the reflection of the maple trees and large rough-cut rocks on the periphery. It also makes use of “borrowed scenery” from the nearby hills of Arashiyama, which appear to be the next tier of the garden.

#13 Mom and I at Tenryu-ji temple, one of my favourite picture with her thus far. :)

20140408-003924.jpg
#15 Followed the path along Tenryu-ji Temple and it will lead you to Sagano bamboo forest, one of the very famous attraction at Arashiyama.

20140408-003954.jpg
#16 Le bro and I. Walking along and between stretches of bamboo trees was very calming, soothing and relaxing.
But because time was our biggest issue, we couldn’t stay for long.

#18 I just kept saying, ‘Japan is really very Japan indeed’ lol. You know how sometimes you eat a piece of chicken and then you’ll say, ‘This chicken taste very chicken’. Okay, maybe it’s just me haha.

20140408-004139.jpg
#19 The weather started getting warm so we all get to take off our outerwear for awhile. :)

My yellow knitwear is from Zara Kids too, for Rm39.90! :D

20140408-004309.jpg
#20 Look at that sun ray, we were all very happy because it was very cold the day before.

After leaving Arashiyama, we went over to Higashiyama district. It was quite a long walk from the nearest train station, for about 20 minutes or more maybe.

20140408-004232.jpg
#21 Randomly walked into a praying shrine after I spotted some really colorful hanging pouches.

20140408-004247.jpg
#22 I mimicked the Japanese and prayed, not sure if I did it correctly though.

We walked uphill along Higashiyama district, entering and exiting shops while heading towards Kiyomizudera Temple.

20140408-004339.jpg
#23

Kiyomizudera (清水寺, literally “Pure Water Temple”) is one of the most celebrated temples of Japan. It was founded in 780 on the site of the Otowa Waterfall in the wooded hills east of Kyoto, and derives its name from the fall’s pure waters. Kiyomizudera is best known for its wooden stage that juts out from its main hall, 13 meters above the hillside below.

20140408-004416.jpg
#24 I wanted to write my wishes on a piece of wooden plate and hang it but I was too stingy to do so because it will make me go 700yen poorer. I think it was 700yen.

20140408-004432.jpg
#25 And then I prayed again wtf. (Let me eat all the sashimi in Japan lol).

20140408-004446.jpg
#26 From above.

20140408-004458.jpg
#27 I was actually looking forward to drink their holy water too but the queue was too long I cant be arse. There will always be a next time I told myself.

20140408-004625.jpg
#28 From below, the famous wooden stage of Kiyomizudera Temple.

By the time we were done with Higashiyama, evening started to set in and because my mom and my aunt were too tired we forego Nara.
I was actually very looking forward to hanging out with lotsa deer but since Fatty too has not been to Nara we can go visit together in the future. :)

20140408-004524.jpg
#29 Randomly went into an Udon shop, I tell you it’s very Japan one.

20140408-004610.jpg
#30 Don’t remember how much this bowl of Udon cost but it is really cheap and really good too! So cheap we were shocked. Love lah, warm hearty bowl of Udon. Slurp.

20140408-004554.jpg
#31 In a convenient store before heading back to Zebra House.

Sometimes I still couldn’t believe that I’ve been to Japan and back.
I used to hate Japan so much that this country has never been in my ‘country to visit’ list.
And I hated Japan so much because of the way Japanese used to torture innocent people during war.
What was I thinking? Such an extreme person LOL.

Osaka/Kyoto 2014 : Day 1

I never thought that I’ll get to go to Japan this soon because a place like Japan is way out of my budget.
There’re always pros and cons in every decision made and like I said my brother being a pilot tends to make me feel paranoid but one of the perks is of course, very cheap air tickets.

My brother works in AirAsia and by right, he can only get us free tickets to nearby places aka short-haul flights destination.
Destination operated by AirAsia X is out of the story but it was very kind of the company to give out free tickets to 6 long-haul destinations.
My family decided on Osaka!

I only paid RM200+ for airport tax and there I was, in Japan! Even my domestic flight tickets costed more than that!
We only managed to explore Japan for a total of 3 nights and 4 days because my brother couldn’t get anymore off days but that alone is a blessing to me.
As for accommodation, we booked a 2 bedrooms apartment via Airbnb and the total damage is only Rm200+ per person for 3 nights. There were 4 of us; my mom, my aunt, my brother, and me. Luck was with us too when Airbnb decided to give discount for first timer. :)

So all in all, flight plus accommodation in Osaka only costed me about Rm500! Nothing gets cheaper than this!
I was too tired and lazy to go around the house snapping pictures but here’s how the place looks like (took these from Airbnb).

airbnb2
#1 Living area with filled with travel guides. There’s also a tv for you if you’re bored. A double bed in one of the two bedrooms which can surely accommodate more than two.

airbnb3
#2 Dining area and a kitchen, fully equipped with pans, pots, and even a coffee machine.

airbnb1
#3 A tatami room as the second room whereby can sleep up to 3 people.

airbnb
#4 Bathroom separated from washroom and because it is separated we tend to save up more time.

Zebra house is kept really clean and tidy, fully equipped with whatever you will need. Hosts are a Taiwanese and a Chinese, so it makes communication much easier for us. They are extremely friendly and caring. Walking to the nearest train station takes about 10 minutes and they will offer us a ride from station to house whenever they’re available.
Highly recommended for it’s price, cleanliness, and hosts that will not disappoint.

As for transportation in Japan, cheap is not something you will get but buying rail passes is the best way to go in order to save up as much as you can.

We stayed at Amagasaki area and the train that operates around that area is Hankyu Kobe line.
It is all very confusing to me at first because there are two many lines and you’ll be unsure of which type of passes you should buy.
Different line actually means different train company (kinda) and if you buy JR pass, you won’t be able to use that pass on a subway. It really depends on the area you stay and which type of line you’ll like to use.
Japan’s train line is very very confusing (to me) and to make things really simple, I went to Hyperdia website. Hyperdia is a website for you to look at train timetables and to search for routes.
For example, if you’d like to go to Amagasaki Station from Osaka station and is unsure of the best route, you can key in the said destination on Hyperdia and automatically they will come up with a list of different routes, trains, and time for you to decide on. You can even key in the exact time you want to board a train and see which is the closest to the time you want. Hyperdia will also break down the price for you if you’re taking more than one type of train so Hyperdia is really the way to go for tourists who find Japan’s train line all too confusing.

Most tourists will opt for JR passes but because we have to take Hankyu Kobe line (which is not JR), we decided on Kansai Thru Pass instead. Kansai Thru Pass is only available for tourists.

Foreign visitors to Japan can purchase the Surutto Kansai 2 Day and 3 Day Ticket inside the Kansai Region, across Japan and outside of Japan at any time of the year. This version of the pass is called “Kansai Thru Pass”.
Points of sales inside the Kansai region include Kansai and Itami Airport and information and transport bureau centers in Osaka, Kyoto and Nara, as well as several hotels in the Kansai Region. In the rest of Japan and outside of Japan, the ticket is available through major travel agencies.

Kansai Thru Pass includes all the trains, subways, and buses except for JR train around Kansai region (Osaka, Kyoto, Nara, Kobe, etc) and in my opinion it seems more flexible this way.
For a 2 day pass, you’ll have to pay 4000yen and for a 3 day pass the cost will be 5200yen.
Here’s the ultimate guide to Japan rail passes to make it easier for you.

As for internet, they do not really sell data sim card like most countries do and instead they will rent you pocket wifi. They cost about 900yen+ for a day if I remember well and in my opinion, it’s really quite expensive but you probably just have to because they don’t really have wifi around. If you really want a data sim, you’ll have to buy in advance from b-mobile on the net and have them send it to your hotel or airport. Japan is such a technology advance country and yet they make it so hard for us tourists. I did not rent my pocket wifi from Kansai airport. I rent from our Airbnb host instead because for the entire stay he only charged us 900yen. :)

We arrived in Kansai Airport around 3 in the afternoon and we headed straight to Namba station and not to Zebra House because our host, Ian suggested that we walk around Namba area in order to fully utilize the time we had. Going back and forth will take us too much time as the shops closes about 8 plus.
Quite a good idea actually and don’t worry about all the luggage, they actually have lockers at their train stations that fit different sizes of bags and luggage.

“Namba is a district of Osaka, Japan. Namba is regarded as the center of so-called Minami (“South”) area of Osaka.”
There’re a lot of shops, boutiques, restaurants and stalls around Namba area, so it’s really quite a nice place to walk around, shop a little, eat a lot, and to look at some local Japanese.
After sorting out our luggage at the locker room, we headed to Dotonbori direction which is one of the main tourist destination in Osaka.

20140401-144429.jpg
#5

It is a single street, running alongside the Dōtonbori canal between the Dōtonboribashi Bridge and the Nipponbashi Bridge in the Namba ward of Osaka. A former pleasure district, Dōtonbori is famous for its historic theatres (all gone now), its shops and restaurants, and its many neon and mechanised signs, including snack/candy manufacturer Glico’s giant electronic display of a runner crossing the finish line.

20140401-144501.jpg
#6 The first ramen shop we came across while walking towards Dotonbori.

20140401-144514.jpg
#7 The ramen was 600yen (1000 yen = Rm33 more or less) and we ordered it via their vending machine. Me mom was seriously enjoying that bowl of ramen haha.

20140401-144530.jpg
#8 Right after a bowl of ramen we randomly walked into a yakitori eatery. The shop is really small and cozy.

20140401-144546.jpg
#9 It was so random but so good!

20140401-144558.jpg
#10 Unlike most yakitoris that normally taste the same be it beef or chicken (because they use the same sauce), the yakitoris we had there tasted very different. Me and my brother enjoyed our yakitoris a lot because it was really really good.

20140401-144748.jpg
#11 When you spot Glico Man, you’re right at Dotonbori. Dotonbori is a very fun street to explore besides the food, their signage is extremely large. Quite a way to attract attentions.

20140402-122531.jpg
#12 Huge ass crab which you definitely will not miss. Fatty insisted that I try their crab and so I did.

20140402-122505.jpg
#13 It was quite pricey…

20140402-122545.jpg
#14 …but super delicious!! The crab was really sweet and to be frank I haven’t tasted a crab this sweet before. It was so good I ate it again 2 days later.

20140402-122604.jpg
#15 Cheap gyoza! 6 pieces for 200yen only!

20140402-122622.jpg
#16 Want a piece of sushi? Sushi is what I most look forward to!

20140402-122637.jpg
#17 My all time favorite, sweet shrimp sushi! Satisfied my cravings a whole lot! What I like about Japan’s sushi is that they’re very generous with the size of said raw seafood unlike what we have here in Malaysia.

Not much pictures were taken because all we did was just to eat and eat.
To conclude my day one in Japan, we were actually extremely cold (8 celcius) and tired but beyond happy too.

First quarter of 2014.

A lot has happened this March.
Never in a million years have I thought that I will experience this so soon but yet I did.
In fact, it isn’t just March.
Not sure for you but my 2014 hasn’t been smooth thus far.

I started off the year with a lot of arguments. There were too many dissatisfaction which lead to quarreling every alternate days.
I was back to my old emotional self for awhile and that hurts a lot.

Just when the arguments started wearing off and I was back to my old happy self, really looking forward to my Japan trip I read a bad piece of news.
Our very own MAS airplane went missing while on the way to Beijing, few days before I flew off to Osaka.
I was affected by the news because I was afraid (I’ve always been afraid of boarding a plane that will crash).
Not only was I affected because I was afraid of boarding a plane so soon but I was also very afraid and concern over my brother’s safety.
He’s a pilot and I don’t want to imagine losing a family member this close to me after my father’s death.
Not sure how my mom feels but every single time my brother step out of the house for work, I feel scared.
And every time I see him coming home in one piece, I feel relieved.
I also have friends who work as a pilot and stewardess, so it does really affect me in a way.

I was constantly updating myself by reading the news while I was at Japan but because I was travelling, I wasn’t that focus.
The travelling did lighten my heart a little bit during that few days.
Then I came home on Friday, got myself a complimentary ticket to FMFA which was great at first.

I partied, had fun, went back to Fatty’s place, slept, and woke up with the worst news after 14 years.
A very very good friend of mine passed away at that exact same place, it was too hard to digest.
In fact he passed me by at the rave and I kept thinking to myself if I have followed him that night, he might still be here.
If I had done a little bit more, just a little bit more by following him. But I did not and he’s a very close friend of mine, so this feeling inside of me really…… I don’t even know how to describe.

It was such a hard time for all of us, all of his close friends and family.
I find it hard to face his mother because occasionally I’ll end up at his house and then bump into his mother and talk a little.
I also find it very hard for me to see how upset and heartbroken my boyfriend was. I just cant do anything to make him feel better.
Then there were a whole lot of close friends who were heartbroken at the same time too.
The pain from seeing my love one being heartbroken, the pain from seeing all my close friends being heartbroken, and the pain from in within feeling really heartbroken.
It was too much to handle and up till this day I still feel like it was a really really bad dream sometimes.

After trying to get it together for a week, I received another news from my bestfriend that her dad passed away.
I was lost for words.
Another week passed by and now, our prime minister announced that our very own MH370 ended up in Indian Ocean.
That’s a whole fucking lot of lives we’re talking about. I was really saddened by what he announced because deep down I wished that the plane was just lost. Lost not perished.

Actually I still have this hope in me somehow that this was just a mistake. Who knows, we’re all capable of making mistakes even our very own prime minister.
What I prayed for during my Bangkok trip and Chinese New Year didn’t come true at all.
I wish for health and safety of my family and friends but that didn’t happen. I wish for happiness for all of them and that didn’t happen.
Was I not sincere enough?

One piece of long ass heart broken post and I’ll update on my Japan trip next.
I want nothing but the remaining of the year to be free from sadness, that’s all.

Bangkok with Tays : Day 4 & Day 5

Someone needs to smack my lazy ass!!
Sometimes I dislike doing travel posts, I always have too many pictures!

I’ve been really busy during Chinese New Year, busy enjoying the festive season hehe.
Lotsa this and that. Now that I’m slightly less busy (I guess or I hope) I can finally continue updating what’s needed to be update.

I do blame Dayre at the same time too because I update my Dayre really often instead of my blog. :(
Dayre makes blogging or rambling a lot more easier which explains why.

So back to my last Bangkok post, I requested for a room change from wood element to metal element because when I showered, water leaked out from the door.

20140119-160215.jpg
#1 Here’s the metal element room that we changed to.

20140226-121618.jpg
#2

20140119-160208.jpg
#3

Everything’s decent, clean and the room was really comfortable.
I do highly recommend Sofitel So hotel for everything that it is. Attentive, clean, smells and looks good. Even their employees look good, they have quite a number of pretty Thai ladies working on the front desk. ;)

20140226-121659.jpg
#4 Fatty’s mom was craving for breakfast buffet so we had it at the hotel that morning.

20140226-121722.jpg
#5

20140226-121755.jpg
#6 I love how they put in effort into decorations.

I love seeing nice decorations and designs, it makes me happy. :)

#7

20140226-121817.jpg
#8

20140226-121834.jpg
#9 First stop for the day was Erawan Shrine or Four Face Bhuddha, that one place I’ll go back to every time I visit Bangkok.

20140226-121853.jpg
#10 Second stop was Siam Centre. I kinda love Siam Centre because they have a lot of awesome boutiques with great interior designs.

I don’t get to buy anything from Siam Centre cause there’s nothing cheap from there but I love looking around at decos.

20140226-121912.jpg
#11 So inspired!

20140226-121938.jpg
#13 Third stop was Mr.Jones Orphanage, a cafe inside Siam Centre.

Ashely Sutton is the man behind this quirky pastry venue. It was established in 2012, while its name was based on a children’s book of the same name. His newest creation, Mr. Jones’ Orphanage, is a Milk Bar featuring age-old recipes from Ash’s own grandmother, Amy Hipkin. The entire interior are made of the light color of wood, which give you a warm feeling and relaxed atmosphere. Its fairy-tale-like design and decoration with fluffy teddy bears, vintage prints, and toys also gives you a feeling like you’ve have experienced the moment in your childhood once again. Some people say it was like you are in a kid’s toy store.

20140226-121956.jpg
#14 The Jones Orphanage at Siam Centre is based on choo-choo train and the seating is really cute. The only downside is that with these seating they cant accommodate a very big bunch of guests.

20140226-122048.jpg
#15 Love the train tracks. They should make these train tracks move like a conveyor belt and have their cakes move around like sushi. It’s gonna be so cute haha.

20140226-122129.jpg
#16 Spoilt for choice.

20140226-122109.jpg
#17 I ordered a piece of carrot cake which was pretty good.

20140226-122147.jpg
#18 And here’s our mini chocolate drink.

20140226-122206.jpg
#19 So cute right!? One’s not enough for Fatty so he ordered another mini milk lol.

20140226-122223.jpg
#20

We shopped around at Siam Centre for a few hours and headed back to hotel later on to take a short rest.
We only had one massage session during the trip and to help ease the pain on my leg, I filled our bathtub with hot steamy water and dipped in my feet in it.

20140226-122258.jpg
#21 Felt so much better after dipping my feet into the hot bathtub.

20140226-122339.jpg
#22 We really needed it.

20140226-122326.jpg
#23 Like really. Okay the water was too hot for me for a moment.

20140226-122430.jpg
#24 :)

20140226-122445.jpg
#25 Dinner was at Thip Samai for Pad Thai and Thip Samai is one of the most famous Pad Thai restaurant in Bangkok.

20140226-122515.jpg
#26 Their Pad Thais’ are cook using charcoal and when you hear the word charcoal you know it’s gonna be good.

20140226-122528.jpg
#27 There’s a few versions of Pad Thai, some with eggs wrapped around, some with crab meats and what not.

20140226-122542.jpg
#28 It was really good and I’m really craving for a plate right now!

They’re open around 5pm and when we were there about 8.30pm it wasn’t really pack.
I’m so gonna go back the next time I”m at Bangkok!

20140226-123055.jpg
#29 Because Fatty’s dad love eating (that’s the only thing he wants to do during this trip haha), we went to the restaurant few shops away from Thip Samai and eat for another round. Nothing much to shout about, just a random restaurant.

The next day, we didn’t do much except for some last minute shopping at Platinum Mall and we had some desserts and drinks at a cafe because we’ve got a flight to catch at 9pm.

20140226-123115.jpg
#30 Here’s the cafe that Fatty’s sister picked, it’s called Un-Fashion cafe. Love the rustic look on this weird shape building.

20140226-123146.jpg
#31 It’s located at Ekamai and along the way, there’s a lot of nice shops and exteriors for us to take a good look at.

20140226-123522.jpg
#32 There’s nothing to not love about it.

20140226-123459.jpg
#33

20140226-123443.jpg
#34 It’s a little small inside the cafe but small means cosy.

20140226-123538.jpg
#35 Cosy right? I can imagine spending the entire afternoon here catching up with friends or catching up with notes if I’m still a student.

20140226-123621.jpg
#36 Could possibly just turn this thing into a cosy house, how frigging nice.

20140226-123650.jpg

#42 Bye-bye one of my favourite city, I’ll see you again.

Once again, a big thank you to Tay’s family for having me with them throughout this trip.
I hope they enjoyed it as much as I did.

Bangkok with Tays : Day 3

Sorry for taking my own sweet time to update posts on Bangkok trip, I don’t even know what I’ve been up to lately.
Tired, restless, and really lazy like all I want to do is just sleep. So much so that I feel like I want to just sleep forever LOL.

So after our half day trip at Maeklong Train Market and Amphawa Floating Market, we headed back to city and checked into Sofitel So hotel.

Sofitel So is located near Lumphini park and station is just few minutes walk away.

Situated on the corner of Sathorn and Rama IV Roads Sofitel So Bangkok is an intrigue-steeped 5-star hotel with a resolutely contemporary outlook.
At the heart of it all The Tree of Life – an emblem designed by famed couturier and design legend Mr. Christian Lacroix – combines the five elements of Water Earth Wood Metal and Fire into uniting icon.
Discover these elements reflected in the design themes of the hotels luxury rooms and suites. Four leading Thai interior designers each bring to life Water Earth Wood and Metal with their own inspired vision.

20140119-153817.jpg
#1 Greeted by a Mini Cooper that is full with lighted present boxes. Oh wait! I just realised this Mini Cooper is mimicking a reindeer. -_-‘

20140119-153831.jpg
#2 A very welcoming lobby with a dare-to-be-different-Christmas-tree.

20140119-153849.jpg
#3 Even their welcome drinks look exceptionally pretty! Love the colors.

20140119-153859.jpg
#4 What looks like a blue welcome drink is actually a purple welcome drink after your stir it. Attention to detail, I like.

Hotel rooms are separated into four different elements ranging from water, earth, metal, and wood.
Each pair picked a different element for a different experience.

20140119-153910.jpg
#5 Situated on the 21st floor, Belinda and Bernice picked earth element.

#6 Among all the elements, I like earth the most although I don’t know why their feature color is blue. Very confusing at some point because isn’t blue suppose to be water?

I’m not a person who fancy blue color that much but I just really like Sofitel So’s shades of blue.

20140119-153919.jpg
#7 Love love love love.

20140119-153933.jpg
#8 Earth element’s room door and sleeping area is separated by a bathroom and when one is showering, there’s no way you can pass through the bathroom without walking pass a naked person lol.

Walking pass a fat naked man, I lagi love. HAHA!

20140119-153952.jpg
#9 Fatty’s parents went for water element and this is the walk-in wardrobe area.

20140119-154001.jpg
#10 Really really comfortable and this is Fatty’s favourite element.

20140119-154042.jpg
#11 Oh, for each room you can also surf the net through the television with keyboard provided. How convenient.

20140119-154012.jpg
#12 I really like water element too for their bathtub.

20140119-154033.jpg
#13 SEE! OMG!!

I love bathtubs since I was young and the only thing I looked forward to when staying in a hotel was the bathtub.
When I was young, the first thing I will check upon entering a hotel room is their bathroom.
Once I saw a bathtub, I will smile and deep in my heart I was jumping with joy.
As for now after so many years, my heart still jump with joy especially when there’s unique bathtubs involve.

20140119-154501.jpg
#14 For the both of us, we choose wood element. I also really like their unique designs for door numbers.

20140119-154520.jpg
#15 Very mature and steady kind of design. A little too steady for me haha.

20140119-154533.jpg
#16

20140119-154544.jpg
#17 When I showered, that glass door was too weak to stop water from flowing out so the floor was really wet after showering. Which is good because after one night sleep, I changed to Metal room. Hahaha.

20140119-154554.jpg
#18 Scale for Fatty to weigh himself after all the food he consumed.

20140119-154614.jpg
#19

20140119-154102.jpg
#20 After checking out all our rooms we went to have a look at their pool. I don’t know, this above to me is such a brilliant design! I was like, ‘OMG Bay look at this, look at this. So clever one the design!’ and he totally ignored me fml. Okay lah maybe it’s just me LOL!.

20140119-154302.jpg
#21 Fatty’s dad was tired so he rested in his room while the remaining five of us waste no time. Then we came across a street protest outside Terminal 21.

20140119-154312.jpg
#22 Experiencing Bangkok’s protest first hand but it was peaceful, nothing major.

20140119-154321.jpg
#23 Fatty and his babes, haha.

20140119-154339.jpg
#24 Everyone was craving for cakes and coffees so we randomly walked into Farm Design.

20140119-154350.jpg
#25 Farm Design sells Japanese cakes and drinks.

20140119-154407.jpg
#26 Lots of flavors to choose from.

20140119-154426.jpg
#27 Green tea cheesecake and I-can’t-remember-what but both was really good.

20140119-154444.jpg
#28 I ordered Hokkaido milk frappe or something because I really wanted to taste Hokkaido milk again but this taste nothing like it. Was really disappointed. :(

20140119-154652.jpg
#29 Dinner was at Sra Bua, Kempinski Hotel. We initially wanted to have our dinner at Nahm, which is a very famous restaurant for fine dine but they were fully booked for 2 weeks wtf. Fully book for 2 friggin weeks!?

Nahm just went into my must try list the next time I’m going to Bangkok and I will book 3 months in advance pfft.
We ordered 3 sets to share and additional entree.

20140119-154758.jpg
#30 Nibblings; Soy roasted cashew nut meringue, Kaffir lime leaf scented lotus root, and Prawn cracker with Chili Tomato.

20140119-154809.jpg
#31 Fried mullet with tamarind, lemongrass, and crispy prawn.

20140119-154826.jpg
#32 Food did not impress much although presentation did. It’s good to be innovative but you must really hit the right note.

There’s a lot to try in their set menu but I really wouldn’t recommend them to you guys.
They’re not that bad but just really not worth the money and time.

20140119-153807.jpg

#34

20140119-154914.jpg
#35 After dinner, we all headed to Lebua at State Tower because Fatty wants to bring his family over to have a look.

20140119-154921.jpg
#36 Breeze.

20140119-154930.jpg
#37 Headed back to hotel and the two of us went up to Sofitel So’s sky bar. Everyone else was too tired for another round. The lifts are separated into four different elements too.

20140119-154954.jpg
#38 I kind of like their bar, I like how they look really different from the usual sky bars.

20140119-154942.jpg
#39 And really comfy too because they have day beds for me to just sit and do nothing.

Sometimes it’s nice to try out the not so famous sky bars and you might be surprise how enjoyable it can get.

Bangkok with Tays : Day 2 & Day 3

There isn’t much pictures from our second day at Bangkok because it was a Saturday and Saturday at Bangkok means Chatuchak day!

20140119-135806.jpg
#1 Started the day off by eating street snacks. I didn’t try this though, not very drawn to sweet stuff.

20140119-135817.jpg
#2 Sat down and had noodles before all of us go on a shopping frenzy. This is my very large bowl of coconut noodle, not large portion but a very large bowl. It was actually quite good, love it when coconut milk is added into spicy soup.

20140119-135843.jpg
#3 Paella at Chatuchak which I really wanted to try but didn’t have the chance to. Too busy buying stuff wtf.

20140119-135834.jpg
#4 Chatuchak now have some pretty nice mini pop-up cafes which is best for shoppers to take a break and rest their feet.

Okay that’s the end of my day 2 wtf hahaha!
We shop till evening, get ourselves a foot massage each and then went back to have dinner at Chinatown T&K Seafood.
We’re all pretty worn out by then but Fatty insisted that he wants to go to Speakeasy, Muse’s rooftop bar so I had to accompany him.

20140119-135926.jpg
#5 There were two floors and we went to the highest floor which we did not step foot on during our stay two years ago. There’s a significant difference between the two floors and I prefer the upper floor. There’s also a dome for dining purpose and the ambiance looks really nice, would like to try it the next time. :)

Third day was dedicated to sight seeing so we booked a van to make our trip easier.
Itinerary was Maeklong train market (which my mom kept telling me how cute it is and that I must go) and Amphawa floating market.
Instead of going to Damnoen Saduak floating market that most tourist loves because it is one of the most popular, we opt for Amphawa floating market instead.
Damnoen Saduak is more of a commercialized floating market and Amphawa is famous among the locals.

20140119-153733.jpg
#6 Selfie! Haha, I really like this picture because this looks really cute. Noticed how the three on the left was smiling without teeth while the three on the right was smiling with teeth. :D

20140119-135953.jpg
#7 Thailand’s Kueh Chap for breakfast.

20140119-135946.jpg
#8 Dessert that looks really like sea urchin.

20140119-153753.jpg
#9 Candid! Yes, I was constantly using my phone. What a bad habit!

20140119-140003.jpg
#10 Maeklong train market that is filled with tourists. It is one hour away from Bangkok city centre.

Maeklong train market is actually a wet market that is centered around Maeklong’s railway. Locals will buy their usual fresh vegetables and fresh seafood while tourists walk around, exploring the market while waiting for the train to pass by.

20140119-140022.jpg
#11 5 tall Tays and 1 short Chow. :)

20140119-140047.jpg
#12 ANGEL! My ass!

20140119-140040.jpg
#13 Market is sheltered by awnings or umbrellas that hangs lowly and whenever a siren is heard, vendors will store away their produces and pull back their umbrellas in order to allow the train to pass by. This is what all vendors do few times a day.

20140119-140055.jpg
#14 Important ladies in Fatty’s life. (Haha cheat one, I tiptoed a little bit.) :P

20140119-140105.jpg
#15 Maeklong’s market iconic fish. I like how they store it in a dim-sum look a like basket.

20140119-140132.jpg
#16

20140119-140143.jpg
#17 Fried frogs? Wtf.

20140119-140155.jpg
#18 Vendors at work, pulling in their umbrellas.

20140119-140205.jpg
#19 Train’s here!

20140119-140219.jpg
#20 It was really worth seeing and do check on the train’s schedule in order not to waste so much time.

20140119-140338.jpg
#21 This boy likes to smirk so much he thought he’s Edison Chen.

20140119-140259.jpg
#22 Amphawa floating market is just 15 minutes away from Maeklong train market.

20140119-140410.jpg
#23 We reached a tad bit early so it wasn’t fully open yet. Maybe you can try reaching at about 2 or 3pm. There’s a lot of food around and I’d really like to try eating by the river on small wooden chairs.

20140119-140309.jpg
#24 One and only picture of us taken on the boat turned out blur. :(

20140119-140328.jpg
#25

20140119-140322.jpg
#26 Passed by an abandoned temple which looks magnificent somehow.

20140119-140343.jpg
#27 You know it was so chilly in Bangkok and we did not walk under the sun THAT much, Fatty got fairer after 5 days. I prefer the fairer him.

20140119-140357.jpg
#28

20140119-140427.jpg
#29 Instead of taking our lunch by the canal, ordering through the vendor on boats and eating while almost squatting down we went into a restaurant instead. Fatty’s father prefer the comfier way.

After lunch we went back to city centre and checked into So Sofitel.
Third day, to be continue.
